I had to read this short book again before writing this review, because I couldn’t for the life of me remember what was in it, although I could recall that it had a profound impact on me the first time through. And it has become clear just why this is so - it speaks of the present, not the one that just went by and still lingers in memory, because that’s the past. And not that present that is just about coming into view, the one we know will be the present when it arrives, because that one is the future. But the present moment that is forever with us right now, and now, and now, yet not the now that just was but this very one now… And we can’t very well take what we have known, or even what we know, into this continuingly emerging present. And that’s the dilemma - just having read it again, being blown away by the wisdom and insight contained within, I couldn’t really tell you what it’s about, only that there is a lingering feeling of having been completely with it at the time - I mean, carried along inside it. It’s vast, and sure it will be there again and still inspiring next time I give it a go, but I am no longer where I was when I re-read it. Anyhow, if you enjoyed the DaVinci Code, then buy this book - not that they’ve anything in common, but I reckon you need something decent to read after wading through that pile of crap. |
