The Sirens of Titan Long since, all the Vonnegut novels I consumed have melded into a bizarre landscape of strange and wondrous happening - a funny place within me, that’s for sure, yet I rarely visit for amusement alone, but more for the sense of satirical perspective that this land offers. Not quite all sensible, and certainly not entirely nonsensical, Kurt Vonnegut writes with an uncommon sense of the extraordinary incidents in the lives of those who would be terribly normal if it weren’t for these unlikely and completely unpredictable events. One day, I hope to be a character in a Vonnegut novel, but not a main character - life would be just too weird - one of the minor players involved in the peripheral excitement of a god-gone-mad existence… actually, I must recant before the thought somehow manifests as a multiverse-hopping reality - I’d be happy to simply read a few more of his ‘forays into the unwieldy potential of humanity,’ and imagination can extend the fantasy into waking life as it has done so many times before. Vonnegut, you devil, what have I become!! ;) |
